Executive Director, College & Career Readiness at Oakland Unified School District
Dr. Lucia Moritz is currently the Executive Director of College and Career Readiness in Oakland Unified School District. She also most recently served as the High School Network Superintendent, responsible for supervising 17 high schools and multiple departments in the High School Linked Learning Office, and previously as the Executive Director of Alternative Education. Graduation rates have steadily increased and the dropout rate has decreased on average 15% over the past four years in alternative education schools. In addition, all alternative education schools in OUSD have developed robust Linked Learning pathways offering wraparound academic, CTE, work-based learning and comprehensive student supports to ensure all students are graduating college and career ready.
Prior to working with OUSD, Lucia worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) helping lead the Linked Learning initiative across 21 high schools, an initiative aimed at redesigning the traditional high school model by connecting rigorous academics with real-world learning experiences in a variety of industries to prepare students for post-secondary and career success. She began her career in education teaching in LAUSD. She then moved to the Bay Area to help start the Making Waves Academy, a 5th-12th grade school committed to providing students from low-income communities the necessary skills to graduate from four-year universities. After that time in the Bay Area, Lucia became a Teaching Fellow with Marshall Ganz, a Senior Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), and as part of her work, coordinated and led leadership development trainings with a variety of organizations. Lucia holds a Doctorate in Education Leadership (Ed.LD.) from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a masters in education from Loyola Marymount University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego, in Ethnic Studies. Lucia lives in Oakland, California with her husband and daughter.
