An Exciting New Chapter for Hack the Hood: Gift from MacKenzie Scott and New Executive Director!
Today marks a new and exciting chapter in our story. It's a time of celebration, transformation, and excitement for what lies ahead.
A Monumental Gift
First, we are thrilled to announce that we received a generous $2 million donation from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Open Call.
We are grateful for this gift, which recognizes our vision for tech justice and the tireless effort and generational impact of our staff, volunteers, and donors.
Yield Giving’s reviewers unanimously praised Hack the Hood for its powerful vision of economic mobility, proven results in forging career paths and eliminating barriers to entry into the tech industry for Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and AAPI youth.
In March 2023, Yield Giving, founded by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, launched an open call for community-based organizations to apply for funding. Hack the Hood stood out as one of the top-scoring applicants during the open call process, which drew more than 6,300 applications from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico from nonprofits vying for support.
Welcome New Executive Director!
Second, we are thrilled to announce that Samia Zuber will be our new Executive Director.
A San Francisco native and a proud first-generation Eritrean American, Samia is deeply committed to creating a more equitable and just Bay Area. She began her journey with Hack the Hood in June 2021 as Director of Programs and Partnerships, bringing a rich background from her transformative work at Code2040.
